Interested in getting more involved with the ABR?
Thanks for your interest in volunteering for the ABR. The ABR is on the fast track, keeping pace with current developments in U.S medicine.
We want you to know:
- The Maintenance of Certification program continues to develop.
- The Board has made decisions that will fundamentally change our initial examination processes.
- We are striving to provide technologically enabled information and services that our diplomates and the public expect in the 21st century.
Our commitment is for ABR certification to reflect the massive changes in medicine while remaining a respected and credible exercise of professional self-regulation.

Volunteer Service Awards System
The ABR instituted a volunteer service awards system in October 2008. The award levels are:
- ABR Volunteer Service Award - 24 cumulative points (certificate, lapel pin)
- ABR Distinguished Service Award - 48 cumulative points (certificate, lapel pin, clock)
- ABR Lifetime Service Award - 72 points (certificate, lapel pin, and crystal award)
Points are loosely based and awarded as one point per day of effort expended.
