Information Deadlines

ITEM SENT FROM ABR DUE BACK TO ABR
Registration Download from website Sept. 30 of the year BEFORE the exam will be taken. Late registrations will be accepted until Oct. 31, but there is a late fee attached.
 
Verification of training (documents that resident has completed years 1 - 3 and projects 4th year activity) NA With registration, or before Sept. 30 of the year BEFORE the exam will be taken.
 
C Form About five months before the exam Deadline noted on form.
 
D Form About two months before the exam Deadline noted on form.
 
Verification of training (verifies that resident is still enrolled and is projected to finish the 4th year of training by June 30) NA Deadline noted on form.
 
Verification that the resident finished the 4th year of training After the oral exam, before certificates are mailed to those who passed Deadline noted on form.

Leaves of Absence

New policy effective July 1, 2010

Leaves of absence and vacation may be granted to residents at the discretion of the program director in accordance with local rules. Within the required period(s) of graduate medical education, the total such leave and vacation time may not exceed:

6 calendar weeks
(30 working days)
for residents in a program for one year
12 calendar weeks
(60 working days)
for residents in a program for two years
18 calendar weeks
(90 working days)
for residents in a program for three years
24 calendar weeks
(120 working days)
for residents in a program for four years

If a longer leave of absence is granted, the required period of graduate medical education must be extended accordingly.

Please note that the new policy has no relationship to maternal/paternal leave policies, institutional vacation policies, sick leave policies, or any other issues related to contractual obligations, institutional policies, and/or state or Federal government legislation or regulation, or employment law. The new policy relates only to the time in training requirements for eligibility to take the ABR certification examination.
